Fruity Fresh, Green Lane opened its doors to the public in June on the site of the previous Natwest branch. With space for a fresh fruit and veg hall, a juice bar and a café this welcome addition to the high street has a distinctively open and modern feel to it.
Ashok Chowdry started Fruity Fresh in 1976. It all started as a favour to a friend, who wanted some produce dropped off from a wholesale market in London. Ashok saw he could source products directly for much lower prices which he could pass onto retailers, and also focus on products which were lacking in the local market at that time, mainly exotic items and those focused on the Asian diet. From then to now, the business has grown to imports, wholesale and a retail site in Wembley.
Monica and Neil, who live in Northwood, believed that there was a desire for really fresh and varied produce from the local community and thus saw an opportunity to bring the Fruity Fresh offering in to this area. From passion fruit to pears, okra to onions, custard apples to coriander, they aim to provide a little something for everyone. When you add that to fresh juices, smoothies, lassis and chais, you have the perfect excuse to go in to do your shopping more often
